In an article titled "Staying awake with the faithful and discreet slave", The Watch Tower of July 15, 1960 declared :

The Society emphasizes that Jehovah’s infallible spirit guided the “faithful and discreet slave” to make him see the future concerning the second world war, saying that it would be won by the democracies and that an organization of Nations would be established.
Their conclusion is obvious : since these events took place three years later, this is evident, solid and indisputable proof, that this “slave” is indeed guided by God.
But let’s think about it.
Wasn’t it possible even as early as 1942 to “predict” what would happen a few years later, by analyzing the events of the time ?
Certainly. Many observers were conscious by that date, that the German forces were at a dead end and could practically not win the war.
Didn’t General Douglas MacArthur, as he received the order to leave the Philippines in March of 1942 to retreat to Australia say : “I shall return, I swear”.
Let us list some significant events :
On August 26, 1940, the RAF bombs Berlin. This military operation has a major impact on the German population, since the government had declared many times that the German air space was entirely protected by the Luftwaffe and could not be violated.
On May 27, 1941, the battleship Bismarck, great pride of the Kriegsmarine, is sunk 400 miles west of Brest. This operation, conducted by the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force, causes another psychological impact among the Führer’s troops.
On December 5, 1941, it’s the German debacle in Moscow. The consequences are dramatic. The German commanding officer on the East front, General von Brauchitsch resigns, as well as General von Boch, as they disagree with Hitler who personally directs the troops’ movements. Hitler’s anger knows no bounds when the unit chiefs, disobeying his orders, take it upon themselves to do what they believe is necessary to save their troops.
On March 28, 1942, the Allies bomb Germany, and the town of Lübeck in particular, as it is an important strategic base.
On April 18, 1942, the American bombers lead by Doolitle launch a raid on Tokyo, Japan’s capital, ally of the 3rd Reich.
On May 30, 1942, one thousand bombers devastate Cologne. 593 acres of the town are destroyed.
On June 6, 1942, Admiral Nimitz drives off Yamamoto at Midway. The Japanese offensive towards the Hawaiian islands is stopped.
Events then precipitate with the allied landing in North Africa in November, and the encircling of the German army in Stalingrad in December, which surrendered in January of 1943.
So, you didn’t have to be a great expert in military arts to see the strategic flaws of Hitler’s forces, despite some of the important territorial annexations they achieved.
As a side note, it must be said that a tiny “error” crept into the previsions of God’s guided “slave”. It is not the democracies that won the war, as the booklet “Peace, can it last ?”
said, but the allied forces did.
As a matter of fact, Russia, one of the “three greats” to have participated in the victory, was far from being a democracy. It was a dictatorship ruled with an iron fist by Stalin.
As to the establishment of a United Nations organization (notice that the Society says “an” organization and not “the” organization ; this indefinite article allows it to confine itself to a rather vague terminology), it was obvious that it was going to happen.
As a matter of fact, the creation of the United Nations happened in several stages :
Inter-allied Declaration, London, January 12, 1941 (14 countries).
The Atlantic Charter, August 14, 1941 (USA and GB).
The Washington Declaration, January 1st, 1942 (26 countries).
The Moscow Declaration, October 30, 1943 (USSR, GB, USA, China).
The Teheran Declaration, December 1st, 1943 (USA, USSR, GB).
Summits :
Dumbarton Oaks, August 27 to October 17, 1944 (GB, USA, USSR, China).
Yalta, February 1945 (GB, USA, USSR).
San Fransisco, April 25 to June 26, 1945 (Final drawing up of the Charter and the Statute of the International Court of Justice ratified by 51 countries at war again the Axis).
As a reminder, it must be said that the League of Nations, founded in 1919, was dissolved on July 3rd, 1947, but it had been already replaced by the United Nations since October 1945.
So we can see that when the booklet was published by the Watch Tower Society in 1942, already three stages in the creation of the UN had taken place, namely the Inter-allied Declaration in London, the Atlantic Charter and the Washington Declaration. The prediction of the formation of a United Nations organization was therefore within the reach of any observer.
But let’s suppose that the Watch Tower is right and that the “revelations” disclosed in the 1942 booklet are indeed the fruit of Jehovah’s infallible spirit guiding the “faithful and discreet slave”.
The Watchtower of November 15, 1960 tells about the “Divine Will International Assembly” that took place in 1958 and states :
1) amazing advanced information in connection with Daniel’s prophecy
2) was given about events to occur in the immediate future.
3) Such evidence of spiritual foresight is recorded for us in the book “Your Will be done on earth”.
4) Once again the “faithful and discreet slave” has been tipped off ahead of time for the guidance of all lovers of God.
5) Surely one’s present security depends on his staying awake with the “faithful and discreet slave”.
In other words, the Society cannot be any clearer : Since we have proven that what we had announced in 1942 has been fulfilled, we now tell you in this year 1960 that, what is said in the book “Your Will be done on earth” published in 1958, will also come to pass.
It is God’s same infallible spirit who has shown to his faithful slave what will happen in future times. To doubt would show a lack of respect toward God, it would be an act of disobedience.
Thus, there is one more question we must ask : Has what Jehovah revealed to his servant in 1958 taken place later on ?
You are the judge and can come to your own conclusions after considering some excerpts in the book in question, chapter 11, “Un temps marqué pour la fin” (pages 261 to 305) and chapter 15, “Quelle volonté préférez-vous accomplir ?” (page 359).
For those who are unaware or have forgotten, it would be good to remind them that the Jehovah’s Witnesses organization has for many years looked into the interpretation of the prophet Daniel words about the “King of the North and the King of the South”.
They have concluded that these two kings’ identities change over time.
In chapter 10 of the book “Your Will be done on earth”, titled “The North Against the South”, they list the different identities of the two kings in the course of history, and then, in chapter 11, “The Appointed Time of the End”, name those who exist at the time of the “Divine Will Assembly” in 1958 and at the time of the publication of the book.
So, in the early 60s, the Watch Tower teaches that the “King of the South” is formed by democratic forces, i.e. the Anglo-American powers, and that the “King of the North” is made up of communist nations.
Here are the extracts from the book in question (In red important passages).
Page 264 : "IN THE "appointed time of the end" the warfare cold and hot between the king of the north and the king of the south has threatened modern man-made civilization with ruin. The two kings have carried on their deceptive diplomacy and their warfare not only without regard for the best interests ok mankind but also without respect for the kingdom of God, the rightful government of all the earth.”
(Note : "IN THE" in capital letters in the text).
Page 278 : "Events quickly revealed - the Soviet Union, the Communist power that, since it seized power in Russia in 1917, has held world domination as its aim to this day. It felt its strength. It did not reduce its military forces below a war footing. It began to act according to its position of strength, against its chief rival. The United States of America had stepped forth from World War II as the most powerful nation on earth. So a propaganda and economic warfare was begun against the American democracy, a cold war. In effect, Communist Russia declared it early in 1947. The Communist land blockade of western Berlin, beginning June 26, 1948, was a tense feature of the cold war, but was overcome by the American airlift. Communist Russia long blocked the reuniting of all Germany under one government. It held on to eastern Germany as a satellite, making sure that a Communist form of rule was set up there before it recognized Eastern Germany as a political state inside the Communist sphere. There is no mistaking the identity of the king of the north since World War II”.
Page 290 : "The king of the north demands that the citizens shall worship the man-made, Devil-inspired State. To him man is simply a material machine to be worked to death by the State. Since putting man-made sputniks or satellites into space since October 4, 1957, he feels like the lord of the universe, especially since his sputniks have not encountered the person of the invisible God in space between earth and sun. He has prospered to bringing one third of the earth under Communist forms of government, not knowing that God in the heavens laughs and permits this "till the indignation be at an end ; for that which is determined will be accomplished." In the "war of the great day of God the Almighty" Jehovah will bring his indignation and denunciation to an end. What will be accomplished there will be, not what the king of the north determined, but what Almighty God determined.”
Page 292 : "In addition to the honor that the king of the north paid to the god of modern, scientific militarism during the Nazi regime, he has gone even farther in his Communist guise. In 1958 he maintained the biggest army in the world, despite any reducing of the number of his conventional troops. Twenty thousand operational warplanes backed up the army. Size of his army was unknown because of the secretive Iron Curtain. His submarines numbered between 500 and 700, the largest undersea fleet in history, greater than that of the German U-boat fleet. When conquering Eastern Germany, he seized as many German experts on rockets and missiles as he could and put these to work in developing rocketry and missilery in Russia. Russian education has specialized on science and the production of engineers, with a view to military and economic domination of the whole earth. In fact, technical science has become his fetish, his idol. He has tried to seize all the "fortresses" or strongholds by making himself strongest in those departments or realms which he needs in order to dominate the world, including the king of the south, the Anglo-American dual world power.”
Page 297 : “The king of the south is determined to hold his dominant place on earth to preserve the “free world”, as he claims. He was urged to begin a preventive war before the king of the north became too strong ; but he recognizes that nuclear space-age warfare is suicidal … But many fear that a third world war, a nuclear war, will be touched off by accident or by mistake or by some uncaring madman. Yet the king of the south and the king of the north stand at Armageddon … Down to the “time of the end” at Armageddon there will be competitive coexistence between the “two kings”. In some way the king of the south must act, whether preventively or protectively. In the confused fighting between the “two kings” as crazed enemies of Jehovah God and his kingdom, the “kings” will have opportunity and occasion to try out and use their frightful, deadly weapons of all kinds against each other”.
Page 303 : “How far the king of the north will have got when he reaches his “time of the end” the future alone will tell. But he is predicted to gain control over the treasures of gold, silver and all the precious things of this commercialized, materialistic world, including oil”.
Page 306 : “Plainly the king of the north is set to wipe out Jehovah’s worship …The reports that the sanctuary class and the worshiping “other sheep” announce from house to house and publicly and unpublicly underground disturb the Communist dictatorial power.”
Page 307 : “He (the king of the north) has not believed the “reports out of the east and out of the north” warning him of his destruction for fighting against Jehovah God and his kingdom.
He carries his fighting too far in making his attack under God’s leadership upon Jehovah’s sanctuary at his “beauteous holy mountain”. He meets his end, his Armageddon, at Jehovah’s appointed time for it. He has none to help him, not even the king of the south, for this king also is destroyed at Armageddon".
Page 360 : “All earth is in trouble the like of which has never been known since the Flood. Destruction of the seventh world power, the Anglo-American dual power, is at hand …
Now the final world powers of all history are about to fall, yes, communism also !”
History hasn’t proven the “faithful and discreet slave” to be right.
Russia has banished communism, the entente between East and West is getting more and more discernible, research for the space conquest is now an international task.
Russia didn’t take possession of all the riches of the world and hasn’t taken control of the oil resources.
Russia now faces serious difficulties and asks the other nations for help.
It is true that Russia for a while “attacked” the members of the “sanctuary class” and “the other sheep”, but nowadays it allows them to build “Kingdom Halls”, to meet and to preach.
It is true that some Jehovah's Witnesses Assemblies are still forbidden.
But it must be said that other religious groups, the Catholics and Protestants included, are subject to the same restrictions.
It is probably just a short term situation, due to the influence of the orthodox clergy.
Religion hasn’t been destroyed by the monster of communism, far from it.
The Christian faith is recovering in the eastern countries, old churches are being restored and new ones built.
The iron curtain has fallen, the Berlin wall does not exist anymore, Germany is reunited and slowly the whole country prospers again.
Communism will not be destroyed at the battle of Armageddon, as it has already self-destructed.
The East and the West revive their efforts to decrease their arms stocks. The threat of a war between these two blocks has dissipated.
China opens its doors to the world and its communism slowly gives way to a culture that’s turning toward the West.
… Everything is wrong.
Where is God’s infallible spirit who guides his “slave” ?
Was he mistaken, or rather has the Watch Tower claimed wrongly that it was backed up by God ?
Time passes …
Who still remembers the book: “Your Will be done on earth” ?
In 1999, the Watch Tower published a new book : “Pay attention to the Daniel Prophecy !”
Laconically, it says on page 278, paragraph 17 (talking of communism) : "Nevertheless, the king of the north did not achieve world conquest."
They cite Daniel, chapter 11, verse 41 and comment as follows : "The angel foretold : "These are the ones that will escape out of his hand, Edom and Moab and the main part of the sons of Ammon" (Daniel 11:41b). In ancient times, Edom, Moab, and Ammon were situated between the domains of the Egyptian king of the south and the Syrian king of the north. In modern times they represent nations and organizations that the king of the north targeted but was unable to bring under his influence.
They make the prophecy say whatever they want it to say. The Watch Tower teaches : "See, communism failed, because that’s what was predicted in Daniel 11:41”
However, in the book “Your Will be done”, we read, concerning the same passage : "Naturally the enemies of the sanctuary class would be friends or be on the side of the king of the north. So he would not stretch out his hand against those symbolized by Edom, Moab and Ammon. These modern organizations would be delivered or would escape out of his hand ..." (page 299, 300, par. 61).
This is a downright manipulation of the Holy Scriptures.
Who is the current King of the North ? In fact the Watch Tower has no clue !
Its philosophy is as follows : “We’ll see soon enough when he shows up”, as they declare that they won’t know the identity of the King before he reveals himself.
Page 284 of “Pay attention to the Daniel Prophecy !” the Watch Tower simply says : “Yet to rise ...”
